Foundation of retail business „Rudolf Molecz, Handelsvertretung Elektrowaren – und Material“ in the 11th district of Vienna. Dealing basically with electrical parts it is soon decided to start a manufacture of lighting fixtures. The products enjoy great popularity and Rudolf Molecz enlarges the production with small machines.

The company relocates to the 10th district of Vienna. New showroom facilities are shortly after bought in order to meet the requirements of the steadily increasing assortment. The owner’s son, Leopold, joins the enterprise and it becomes “Rudolf Molecz & Sohn OHG”

Molecz acquires trade licence to produce lighting fixtures industrially and sets up a production plant in Vienna-Oberlaa. More lighting models are added to the programme and self- developed designs are patented.

Leopold Molecz establishes the „Leuchtenzentrum“ in Vienna-Neubau – Europes most representative lighting store with display area of 2,000 sqm..

An electroplating shop expands the capacity of the factory. Henceforth surfaces are refined in a specially developed way and thus the glamour is kept for a long time. Trade relations to foreign countries are established and lead to booming export. First trade fairs take ORION to Budapest and Moscow – many follow from, worldwide.

After launching extremely successful product serials the company name is changed to “ORION Leuchten” by the family and the production and trade area are separated from each other.

Peter and Paul, the owner’s sons, join the company - Michael follows in 1982. ORION- lighting stores are set up in Austria brick by brick.

ORION lighting opens its central warehouse affiliated to the export department. Peter manages the production, Michael the purchase and Paul the export department, which already enfolds every region of the world.

The export area is enlarged with project work. Special industrial lighting designs as well as complete equipment of palaces and hotel chains are implemented in co-operation with architects.

ORION- export countries are expanded by the young democracies in Middle- and Eastern Europe as well as Russia and the CIS- territories.

Foundation of subsidiaries in Budapest and in Prague 1997.

Dr. Martin Bartenstein, Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment, awards ORION with the Austrian national coat of arms and honours the efforts of the family with it.

The TQMS of ORION is certified with ISO 9001:2000.
